Configure Custom Ringtones

Soft chimes and ripple sounds which lasts up to 30 seconds have been a regular on iPad tablets. However, you can also customize the ringtone to something audible, so that you will not miss any calls. You can even purchase ringtones from iTunes, but making custom ringtones is a lot fun.

First, open iTunes app on Mac PC, click on iTunes in the toolbar, and choose Check for Updates from the drop-down menu. Updating iTunes to the latest version would ensure that you have a wide range of songs to choose from. Once iTunes updates refresh the page, tap on Choose a Song and pick one that you love from the iTunes store. Once you are done, memorize the Start and Stop points.

To Crop the song to a custom ringtone, right-click on the file and choose Song Info from the drop-down list which appears. Then click on Options located at the top of the window. There you can see the fields for Start and Stop – manually key in the time in the respective fields. The Start point can be set anywhere in the song and the Stop point 30 seconds on. Once you are done with that, click on OK to apply changes.

You can now convert the 30-second ringtone to AAC Format so that it consumes less storage space on your iPad tablet. Now that you have set the time duration for the ringtone, navigate to File > Convert and choose Convert to AAC Version. A copy of the ringtone would automatically pop-up below the original song in the iTunes library.

Then, you need to copy and paste the ringtone file to the desktop of Mac PC by simply dragging the file out of iTunes app to an empty space on the desktop. Moreover, change the file extension of the ringtone file from .m4a to .m4r by clicking on the file. Click on Use .m4r to confirm the changes you made if prompted.

Now, connect the iPad tablet using Apple Lightning cable. Once connected, choose the device icon on iTunes in the upper-left corner and go to Summary > Options. Put a checkmark next to Manually Manage Music and Videos and click on Apply. Then, drag and drop the .m4r file from the desktop into the Tones tab below On My Device and wait for iTunes to sync the ringtone file with the connected device.

Once synced, navigate to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone on your iPad tablet and choose the ringtone file from the list to set your own custom ringtone.
