How to Play YouTube Videos in the Background of iOS or Android Device

Android Tablet

Play YouTube Videos

If your Android or iOS device’s screen is off and you still want to listen to the YouTube music in the background of the devices, subscribe to YouTube Red. Apart from that, the subscription-based service will allow you to play content in the background of the compatible devices and watch select shows on YouTube, without any advertisements.

In fact, you can find virtually anything from live videos, tutorials, music concert videos, etc., in the official YouTube app. However, as closing the app will stop the music video playback, you might want to know how to listen to music in the background or with the screen turned off.

As said, first subscribe to YouTube Red service by opening YouTube on your Android tablet or iPad. If you are on an iOS device, download the latest version of the Opera Mini from the iTunes Store. Once you are done with downloading Opera Mini, open the browser on the iOS device and browse through to YouTube official site.

Search for a video, tap on the video file to start playing it on your iOS device and tap on the Home button to close Opera Mini. Slide up from the home screen to open Action Center and then slide left to reveal the music player on iOS. In Action Center, you will get to see the YouTube video streaming and not the music. Tap on Play to continue listening to the video in the background.

If you are on an Android tablet, you may need to install the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox browser. Once you are done with installing the updated browser either Chrome or Firefox from Google Play Store, open the browser on Android, go to YouTube, and search for the video you want to play in the background of the Android tablet.

Now tap on the overflow button denoted by three dots to launch the Settings menu, and tap on Request Desktop Site. Play the video on YouTube and tap on the Home button to close the browser. Once the video stops playing on Google Chrome or Firefox, pull down the notifications panel and tap on Play.
